Role

Designer (individual project)

The goal of this project was to create an amazing digital experience that showcase the beauty and innovation found in overlooked elements.

"Embark on a journey to discover the extraordinary in
seemingly insignificant details of everyday subjects."

My Idea

My Idea

Journey into the intricate world of sports ball manufacturing, shedding light on the meticulous processes involved in crafting baseballs, golf balls and tennis balls.

In a single scrolling webpage I am going to create a captivating experience that explores the artistry and engineering behind creating these essential tools in the sporting industry.

Defining the User

User Interviews

I conducted 10 interviews to gain insights into users' needs, preferences, and challenges with sports balls. These interviews helped to guide my design decisions and ensure the product meets real-world needs effectively.

Ryan

The athlete

Athletes are keen to understand how sports balls perform in terms of distance, control, and durability, emphasizing the importance of materials and feel for optimal gameplay.

Todd

The dedicated Yankee fan

Sports enthusiasts want to learn about the versatility and differences between sports balls, with an appreciation for an easy-to-use design that enhances their overall experience.

Lily

The curious student

Students are primarily looking to discover the "secrets" that lay within these objects. They want to learn what they would see if they broke open one of these balls.

SKETCHES + ITERATIONS

Based on the feedback and data from my interviews, I began iterating focusing on these 3 user-needs: captivating visuals, functional navigation and informative content.

Preliminary Sketches

Including navigation, 3D models, and the information in an appropriate composition was one of the main challenges.

Exploring UI Variations

3D Modeling

I created my 3D models in Spline. Originally I was going for a low-poly style but the realistic renderings looked better in the UI.

Animating

I animated each layer of each ball to build from the previous layer to give the user an accurate representation.
